Did you know? ...There are over 4 million motorcycles registered in the United States. Riding motorcycles is more popular during the summer months, making this time of year the most common time to take your bike out or see others riding the roads. These pleasure vehicles are known for their fuel efficiency, style, and, sadly, for the danger associated with driving them.
Consider these tips below to help you and all cyclists safe on the roads.
Be visible:
- Remember that motorists often have trouble seeing motorcycles and reacting in time.
- Make sure your headlight works and is on day and night.
- Use reflective strips or decals on your clothing and on your motorcycle.
- Be aware of the blind spots cars and trucks have.
- Flash your brake light when you are slowing down and before stopping.
- If a motorist doesn't see you, don't be afraid to use your horn.
Dress for safety:
- Wear a quality helmet and eye protection.
- Wear bright clothing and a light-colored helmet.
- Wear leather or other thick, protective clothing.
- Choose long sleeves and pants, over-the-ankle boots, and gloves.
- Remember - the only thing between you and the road is your protective gear.
Do you have a bike of your own? I'd love to hear about it or see a picture. Please feel free to reply to this message, or even better, swing by the office next time you take it out for a spin.
Safe driving!
