Our agency strives to help make sure you're protected,
No matter what. So I want to take a minute to provide
3 tips about handling hail damage before the next storm hits.
First, if you are a homeowner, please call us or check your policy declaration page to see if you have Building Code Coverage (subject to policy terms and state allowances). This is a coverage we highly recommend our customers to have. If you have a covered loss on your home, it covers the increased costs (up to policy limits) due to the enforcement of any building codes regulating construction, maintenance or demolition of your home. Without it, you will have to pay those costs out of pocket.
Second, if you think you have damage to your home because of hail (or anything else), please call us before filing a claim. Sometimes people think "all of my neighbors are getting a new roof, so I must have hail damage, too." But that may not be the case - maybe your shingles were in better condition than theirs and withstood the hail, or maybe you were in a small pocket that escaped the most damaging part of the storm. You may not realize it, but if you file a claim and nothing is paid out, it could still count against you as a claim by all insurance companies!
Third, whatever you do, DO NOT deal with a roofer who goes door to door. They are likely storm chasers and probably will be gone as soon as the work is done (meaning the workmanship may not be the best and it may be harder to enforce warranties).
Again, we make it a priority to keep you informed about your coverage and making sure you are fully protected. We are here to help you through every step of the claim process. If you think you need to file a claim, please call us first!
